December 19, 2023: Over 116 people were killed and several injured after an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 jolted two northwestern provinces of China on Monday night.



Local authorities said that as many as 105 people have been killed and 397 injured in Gansu province and 11 people have been killed in neighbouring Qinghai province.



Taking to X, the National Center for Seismology informed, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.1, Occurred on 18-12-2023, 21:29:31 IST, Lat: 35.74 & Long: 102.69, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 805km NNW of Chongqing, China”.

Sichuan, Shaanxi and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region also felt the tremor. As per sources, the rescue and relief efforts are still under way at the areas.
