Guwahati: A two-year-old girl from Andhra Pradesh's Palnadu district has succumbed to bird flu, marking the state's first recorded human death due to the virus.

The toddler passed away on March 15 while undergoing treatment.

As per reports, the girl died of bird flu, which was confirmed by the Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV) after testing her sample.

The girl's household was surprised to learn that she was the only one infected, despite no reported bird flu cases in Palnadu district. Authorities are still unsure how she contracted the virus.

Investigations revealed that the girl had consumed raw chicken before showing symptoms, leading officials to consider this as a possible cause. However, they have not conclusively linked her death to eating raw chicken.

As a precautionary measure, officials conducted a survey but found no new cases, including among the girl's family members.
