Kangpokpi: As the Ministry of Home Affairs prepares to host talks between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities in New Delhi on April 5, the Kuki-Zo leadership from Kangpokpi, Manipur has laid out three unwavering demands for halting hostilities.
The conditions were unveiled on Tuesday following a consultation meeting convened by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi district, attended by representatives of the Kuki-Zo Council, the community’s foremost political body.
Henlianthang Thanglet, chairman of the Kuki-Zo Council, outlined the non-negotiable terms: a strict ban on Meitei individuals entering Kuki-Zo-dominated regions and vice versa, a ceasefire lasting at least six months to enable negotiations, and the establishment of a formal, meaningful dialogue framework during this truce period. These prerequisites aim to create a conducive environment for resolving tensions between the two groups.
The meeting saw robust participation from key Kuki-Zo civil society figures, including leaders from the Sadar Hills Chiefs Association, Kuki Inpi, student unions, women’s groups, and tribal delegates, reflecting a unified stance ahead of the crucial discussions.
