January 6, 2025: A tragic incident has shocked Siddheswar village in the Katigara area of Cachar district, where a young man ended his life after reportedly losing a substantial amount of money in online gambling. The victim, identified as Biswajit Malakar, succumbed to despair after incurring losses amounting to approximately ₹12 lakh.

Biswajit, the son of Badal Malakar, a businessman from Chourangi Bazaar in Katigara, had been battling depression following his financial losses. According to reports, the young man had attempted suicide twice before, reflecting the depth of his mental anguish. Tragically, he succeeded in taking his life yesterday evening by hanging himself in a room at his residence.

The incident has left the local community in shock and mourning. Neighbors and acquaintances suspect that the stress of his gambling debts pushed him to this extreme step.

Upon discovering the body, police rushed to the scene and transported Biswajit to Katigara Model Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body has been sent to Silchar Medical College for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
