January 10, 2025: In a shocking turn of events, nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of 21-year-old Dharmendra Nath, a daily wager from Rangia. Among the accused, some are reportedly influential members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The arrested individuals have been identified as Himanshu Kakati, Amulya Lahkar, Anusmay Kalita, Biki Lahkar, Nitul Kalita, Mani Kakati, Dhruv Mohanta, Gakul Kalita, and Arup Kalita.
The incident unfolded on December 25 when Dharmendra’s motorbike allegedly scratched another vehicle, sparking an altercation. According to reports, Dharmendra was mercilessly beaten and then forcibly taken away to an unknown location by the assailants. After being missing for five days, his body was discovered in a pond on December 30, with his hands and feet tied, indicating foul play.
The recovery of Dharmendra's body triggered widespread outrage in the area. A tense situation arose as local residents surrounded the Rangia Police Station, demanding justice and swift action against the culprits.
Following the arrests, police are awaiting the post-mortem report to establish the exact cause of death. "We have taken nine suspects into custody and will file chargesheets against them once the post-mortem report is received," said a senior police official.
The incident has not only shaken the local community but has also raised questions about the involvement of politically influential figures. The police are under pressure to ensure a fair and thorough investigation as protests and demands for justice continue to grow.
