Kamrup Metro Schools to Follow Heatwave Guidelines Starting September 21

September 20, 2024: In response to the ongoing heatwave affecting the district, the Office of the District Elementary Education Officer, in consultation with the District Commissioner, has issued urgent guidelines for all private, state, and central government schools operating within the Kamrup Metro district.

Effective September 21, 2024, the following measures must be implemented to safeguard students from the heat: (i) Classes will begin at 7:30 AM and conclude by 12:30 PM to help minimize heat exposure.

(ii) All schools are required to hold morning assemblies inside classrooms to ensure student comfort.

(iii) Schools must provide ample drinking water facilities and promote the importance of staying hydrated.

(iv) Students are advised to refrain from wearing waistcoats and ties to enhance comfort during the heat.

(v) Schools should ensure all fans are operational and that classrooms are well-ventilated. Additionally, arrangements for backup power must be made in case of outages.

These guidelines aim to mitigate the ill effects of the heatwave on students and staff. All educational institutions in the Kamrup Metro district are expected to adhere to these directives until further notice.
