IMD Issues Warnings Forecasting A Severe Heatwave Across Several States.

May 22, 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert across North India, forecasting a severe heatwave in the coming days. States including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh are set to experience extreme temperatures, with the mercury expected to soar up to 47 degrees Celsius until May 25. This follows record highs of over 45 degrees Celsius observed on May 21. The heatwave conditions are also expected to impact other regions. Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh will endure similar conditions throughout this period. Maharashtra will face intense heat until May 24




Moreover, West Bengal and Odisha are under heavy rainfall warnings, particularly in North and South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, and Balasore, where downpours are expected on May 25. The northeastern states of Mizoram, Tripura, and Manipur are also forecasted to receive substantial rain on the same day. Southern India is not exempt from the weather turmoil. Karnataka will experience heavy rainfall until May 23, while Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are on alert for heavy rain on May 24. Kerala is forecasted to have heavy rainfall on May 25. 



 



Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to sweep across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana until May 26.Health and Safety Advisory Given the extreme weather conditions, residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions.
