February 6, 2025: Secret documents have revealed that Hamas reportedly tortured and executed its own members accused of engaging in same-sex relations, including some who were allegedly involved in the rape of male Israeli hostages during the October 7, 2023, attack. The attack, which left at least 1,200 people dead, saw the capture of numerous Israeli victims, some of whom were reportedly raped by Hamas militants.
The group allegedly had a list of recruits who violated its stringent "morality checks" for engaging in homosexuality, and these individuals reportedly paid a "heavy price" for their actions. According to the New York Post, 94 Hamas recruits were accused of offenses ranging from engaging in homosexual conversations and flirting with girls outside of legal relationships to sodomy and child rape.
Documents also included troubling allegations, such as one recruit being accused of "constantly cursing God" and another of "romantic relationships on Facebook," with both actions deemed morally deviant by the group.
Homosexuality is strictly illegal in Gaza, with punishment for such offenses ranging from lengthy prison sentences to execution. A particularly chilling example of Hamas' stance on homosexuality occurred in 2016, when former Hamas commander Mahmoud Ishtiwi was executed by gunfire after being imprisoned and tortured for allegedly having same-sex relations.
