September 14, 2024: A tragic explosion in central Kolkata today claimed the life of a 58-year-old ragpicker identified as Bapi Das. The blast occurred around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Blochmann Street and SN Banerjee Road, sending shockwaves through the area.



Emergency services from the Taltala Police Station quickly responded to the scene after a suspicious plastic gunny bag was discovered at the entrance of Blochmann Street. The area was promptly cordoned off as the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was called in to handle the situation.



BDDS personnel carried out a detailed inspection of the bag and the surrounding area. Following their assessment and clearance, normal traffic was restored. Forensic teams are now working to establish the cause and details of the explosion.



Bapi Das, who was severely injured in the blast, was transported to NRS Medical College and Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.



In the wake of the incident, Bengal BJP leader and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has urged for a thorough investigation by the National Investigating Agency (NIA), stressing the importance of uncovering the full truth behind the explosion.
