52 Detained in Mandya Following Communal Clashes During Ganpati Procession

September 12, 2024: A Ganpati procession in Mandya district’s Badarikoppalu village was marred by violence on Wednesday, leading to the detention of 52 individuals. The clashes erupted after stones were allegedly thrown from near a mosque at participants in the procession.

The confrontation escalated when a group of Hindi youths placed the Ganesh idol in front of the local police station, staging a protest. The unrest grew as some protesters set fire to shops and tyres, increasing tensions in the area.

In response, police have detained 52 people for their suspected roles in the disturbances. These individuals are currently being questioned as authorities investigate the cause of the clashes and assess the situation.

The detentions have led to demonstrations outside the police station, with relatives of those detained calling for their release. Meanwhile, the police said that people were brought for questioning in connection with the matter.

The Karnataka Police are working to de-escalate the situation and ensure peace in the affected region.
