State Funeral Planned for Ratan Tata; Maharashtra Declares Day of Mourning

October 10, 2024: Ratan Tata, the esteemed industrialist and philanthropist, passed away on Wednesday, prompting the Maharashtra government to organize a state funeral in his honor. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde described Tata as a "unique blend of morality and entrepreneurship" and announced a day of mourning across the state on Thursday.

Tata's mortal remains will be accessible for public homage at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai's Nariman Point from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM on Thursday. At 3:30 PM, a procession will transport his body to the Worli crematorium for final rites. Home Minister Amit Shah will represent the Central Government at the last rites.

In an official statement, Tata's family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating, "The mortal remains of Ratan Tata will be taken to the NCPA Lawns for members of the public to pay their last respects and homage."

In a show of respect, the Chief Minister's Office announced that flags on government buildings in Maharashtra will be flown at half-mast, and there will be no entertainment events throughout the day.

On social media platform X, Eknath Shinde hailed Tata as a "living legend" who successfully led the Tata Group for decades. He emphasized Tata's commitment to excellence and integrity, saying, "The decisiveness and mental toughness he displayed time after time took the Tata Group to different industrial heights."

Ratan Tata's legacy as a leader who transformed the Tata Group into a global powerhouse will be remembered as Maharashtra and the nation mourn his passing.
