Priyanka Gandhi Enters Politics: Signs Nomination for Wayanad Bypolls in Historic Debut

October 23, 2024: In a significant political move, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi officially entered the electoral arena by signing her nomination papers for the upcoming Lok Sabha bypolls in Wayanad, Kerala. This by-election became necessary after her brother, Rahul Gandhi, decided to vacate the Wayanad seat, having previously won both Wayanad and Raebareli in the last general elections.

Accompanied by Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka is set to lead a roadshow ahead of her nomination filing, a symbolic gesture showcasing her commitment to the constituency. The event will also feature prominent Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

On the eve of her nomination, Priyanka, along with Sonia Gandhi, met with local party leaders to discuss strategies and gauge grassroots sentiments. Rahul Gandhi expressed strong support for his sister's candidacy, stating, “The people of Wayanad hold a special place in my heart, and I can't imagine a better representative for them than my sister, Priyanka Gandhi. I'm confident she will be a passionate champion of Wayanad's needs and a powerful voice in Parliament.”

In the electoral battle, Priyanka will face formidable opponents, including Navya Haridas from the BJP and senior CPI leader Sathyan Mokeri, representing the Left Democratic Front (LDF). As the campaign heats up, all eyes will be on Priyanka’s ability to connect with voters and carry forward the legacy of the Gandhi family in the politically significant region of Wayanad.
