August 1, 2024 – Following heavy rain on Tuesday, three major landslides struck in Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala and Noolpuzha villages in Wayanad. In these horrific landslides at least 256 people have lost their lives and over 200 were injured.
Till third day of rescue operations, Army has rescued around 1,000 people and around 220 people are still missing, said Health Minister Veena George. According to the PTI’s report, A Command and Control Centre have been set up in Kozhikode by the Army for coordinating Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts.
An Indian Air Force plane carrying another set of 110-feet Bailey bridge and three search and rescue dog teams have landed in Kannur to aid in the search operations.
As reports, On Thursday, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will visit the relief Camps in Wayanad. Also an all party meeting to be held on Thursday will be chaired by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
