India Protests Canadian Allegations Against Home Minister Amit Shah

November 2, 2024: The Indian government has officially summoned a Canadian official following recent allegations made against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Describing the claims as "absurd and baseless," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a strong protest during a meeting with a representative from the Canadian High Commission.

At a press conference on Saturday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal detailed the government’s response to remarks made by Deputy Minister David Morrison during a parliamentary session in Canada. Morrison's testimony suggested that a high-ranking Indian official was implicated in plots against Sikh separatists, linked to the murder investigation of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The Indian government has dismissed these allegations, stating they are part of a broader effort to discredit India on the international stage. "We protest in the strongest terms the unfounded references made to the Union Home Minister," Jaiswal emphasized, asserting that the revelations of high Canadian officials leaking sensitive information to the media only reinforce suspicions about the political motives behind the Canadian government’s actions.

Relations between India and Canada have been strained since allegations emerged connecting Indian agents to Nijjar’s killing last year. The Indian government warned that such "irresponsible actions" could have serious implications for bilateral ties, highlighting ongoing tensions between the two nations.
