December 3, 2024: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Member of Parliament Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday raised strong concerns in the Lok Sabha regarding the violent incident in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, which led to the deaths of four people. Yadav termed the violence a "well-planned conspiracy" and accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies of fueling communal tensions across the country.
The incident in question occurred on November 24, when a mob attacked a team of officials conducting a court-mandated survey of a Mughal-era mosque in Sambhal. During the attack, stones were hurled at the survey team, leading to fatalities. Yadav linked the violence to a broader strategy aimed at sowing discord in Indian society.
While speaking in Parliament, Yadav stated, “The incident that took place in Sambhal is a well-planned conspiracy, and the brotherhood in Sambhal has been destroyed. The talks of excavation throughout the country, propagated by the BJP and its allies, will destroy the brotherhood of the country.” His remarks came amid ongoing tensions and controversies surrounding the BJP-led efforts to survey and excavate historical mosques across the country, which have sparked fears of rising communal strife.
Yadav also accused the Sambhal administration of being biased in their response to the incident, suggesting that local officials were acting in the interests of the BJP. “The officers out there are working arbitrarily – such that they are working as workers of the BJP,” he said. “This Sambhal incident is part of a deliberate strategy by the BJP to divert attention from other pressing issues and deepen communal divides.”
The SP leader expressed concern over the long-term impact of these actions on national unity, warning that the country’s brotherhood could be compromised if such narratives continued to spread.
The tragic events in Sambhal, which resulted in the loss of four lives, have ignited further debates on religious tensions and political agendas in the region. While the local administration maintains it was conducting the survey in accordance with a court order, the attack on the officials has fueled growing protests and calls for justice.
