May 6, 2024: Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has recommended a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received political funding from the banned terrorist outfit "Sikhs for Justice".
In a letter addressed to the Union Home Secretary, the LG's secretariat conveyed that Saxena had received a complaint alleging that the AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal purportedly received $16 million in funding from extremist Khalistani groups. This funding was purportedly provided in exchange for facilitating the release of Devendra Pal Bhullar.
The recommendation has outlined serious allegations of funding from sources associated with terrorist organisations, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
The LG's letter noted, "... Kejriwal purportedly promised to facilitate release of Devender Pal Bhullar, in return for substantial financial backing from Khalistani factions to Aam Aadmi Party..." citing a plaint from a Hindu religious body and tweets by a former AAP worker.
The AAP responded through senior leader Saurabh Bhardwaj, who rejected the LG's suggestion for the NIA probe, labeling it as a "conspiracy" against the party and its leader.
