Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal approaches Supreme Court on excise policy case

August 12, 2024: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal approached the Supreme Court on Monday with a plea to be released from jail in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

Challenging his arrest and the remand orders, Kejriwal sought bail as he assailed the Delhi high court’s judgement that ruled that Kejriwal’s arrest was neither illegal nor without justifiable grounds because the CBI presented “evidently enough evidence” to warrant his detention and remand.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi mentioned the matter before the Chief Justice of India for urgent listing and CJI DY Chandrachud said that he will examine the e-mail request and assign a date.

Meanwhile, the apex court is scheduled to hear today a plea of Kejriwal challenging a Delhi High Court order upholding the summons issued to him in a criminal defamation case for retweeting an allegedly defamatory video circulated by YouTuber Dhruv Rathi in May 2018.
