Delhi Bakery Owner Dies by Suicide Amid Marital and Business Dispute

January 1, 2025: In a tragic incident, Puneet Khurana, a bakery owner from Delhi, was found dead by suicide at his residence in Model Town's Kalyan Vihar area on Tuesday. The 36-year-old was embroiled in a bitter marital and business dispute with his wife, which family members say had taken a toll on his mental health.

Khurana, who married in 2016, co-owned the popular bakery "For God's Cake" and the now-closed eatery "Woodbox Cafe" with his wife. According to his family, his ongoing divorce proceedings and disagreements over the bakery's management had left him "deeply upset."

The Delhi Police reported that Khurana’s last phone conversation was with his wife, and the discussion centered on their shared business. The family has alleged that she recorded the call and sent it to her relatives, further exacerbating tensions. Authorities have seized Khurana's phone and are working to retrieve the recording, which they believe could provide crucial insights into the circumstances leading to his death.

"This is a heartbreaking incident," said an investigating officer. "We are examining the evidence and plan to question the wife to better understand the dynamics of their disputes."

The incident has drawn parallels to a recent case in Bengaluru, where tech professional Atul Subhash died by suicide last month. Subhash left behind a 24-page note accusing his wife and her family of harassment and chronicling years of emotional distress. His death, like Khurana’s, highlights the growing need for mental health support and intervention in domestic disputes.
