Crown of Goddess Kali Stolen from Bangladeshi Temple, Gifted by PM Modi

October 11, 2024: A crown belonging to the statue of Goddess Kali at the Jeshoreshwari Temple in Satkhira has been reported stolen, raising concerns over the security of cultural artifacts. The silver and gold-plated crown, which was personally gifted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bangladesh in March 2021, went missing on Thursday afternoon, shortly after the temple priest completed the day's worship rituals.

The theft was discovered later in the day by cleaning staff, who noticed the crown's absence. The high commission of India in Bangladesh has expressed "deep concern" regarding the incident. In a statement posted on X, the commission urged the Government of Bangladesh to promptly investigate the theft, recover the crown, and take action against those responsible.

During Modi's visit, the crown was placed on the deity's head as a symbol of goodwill and cultural exchange between India and Bangladesh. The incident has sparked outrage among devotees and temple officials, who are calling for swift action to recover the sacred artifact.
