August 23, 2023: India is a few hours away from making history. Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander is all set to make a soft landing on the moon’s surface today.
India will become the fourth country in the world to land on the moon after the United States, Russia, and China. On the other hand, India will be the only country in the world to land on the lunar South Pole.
The scheduled timing for the soft landing is around 18:04 Hrs IST, with the powered descent of the Vikram lander expected at 1745 IST.
The ISRO launched Chandrayaan-3 into space by the LVM3 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on July 14.
The whole country has kept their fingers crossed and is praying for a successful ISRO mission.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in South Africa to attend the BRICS Summit, will also virtually witness the landing attempt of India's moon mission today.
Earlier, Assam Education Department and Uttar Pradesh Government on Tuesday announced that the Moon Mission Chandrayaan-3 soft landing will be telecasted all over the schools on August 23. The schools will remain open until 6 PM for the live telecast.
