September 25, 2024: A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper was detained for over six hours on Tuesday after being abducted by a group of 15 to 20 individuals from Bangladesh near the Biral border in Dinajpur, India. The incident has raised concerns about border security and prompted a swift diplomatic response from Indian authorities.
According to a statement from the BSF, the trooper was on a routine patrol when he was forcibly taken across the border and handed over to the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). In response, the BSF’s North Bengal Frontier Inspector General reached out to his Bangladeshi counterpart to demand the immediate release of the detained personnel.
The BSF described the incident as “a serious breach of border security” and termed it “alarming,” insisting that the trooper had not crossed into Bangladesh. They reiterated their position amid claims from Bangladeshi media that the trooper had indeed crossed the border prior to his detention.
Following diplomatic engagements, the BSF trooper was released around 5 PM after a flag meeting at the sector commander level between the BSF and BGB. This swift resolution reflects ongoing tensions and the delicate nature of border management between India and Bangladesh.
