October 12, 2024: In a significant security operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) has successfully intercepted and shot down a Pakistani drone in Ferozepur, Punjab, which was found to be carrying a stash of heroin and a pistol. Officials confirmed the incident on Saturday.
The drone, identified as a DJI Mavic 3 Classic, was loaded with approximately 500 grams of heroin, along with a pistol and a magazine. BSF personnel responded swiftly after detecting the drone violating Indian airspace, deploying their resources to neutralize the threat.
"Alert troops of BSF Punjab intercepted a Pakistani drone that violated Indian airspace. BSF personnel immediately fired at the drone, subsequently bringing it down using technical measures," the BSF Punjab Frontier tweeted, detailing the operation.
This incident marks the second significant seizure of the day, highlighting ongoing efforts by the BSF to combat smuggling and maintain border security. In recent months, the BSF has reported a series of similar encounters, with multiple Pakistani drones being shot down or seized. Notably, two drones were apprehended by Punjab Police near Amritsar in March, and another was shot down in the Gurdaspur district earlier this year.
