November 08, 2022: Around 115 pigs have been infected from African swine fever in Katni district, Madhya Pradesh. According to a report, at least 85 pigs have died after being infected.

The administration is preparing to reduce the population of the pigs by conducting a survey in the area.

RK Singh, the Deputy Director of Veterinary Department said “As of now, 85 pigs have died and 115 infected pigs have been identified. Survey work is going on to identify the infected pigs in the area. Two zones have been formed for the prevention of the disease. One is ‘infected zone’ which revolves around the radius of one kilometre of the infected spot and the other is ‘surveillance zone‘ which covers the area in the radius of nine kilometres”.

The central government will give a compensation amount depending on the weight of the pigs. The amount will range between a minimum of 2200 and maximum of 15000, RK Singh said. Experts from Jabalpur will also come once the survey is done, for further proceedings.
