December 6, 2024: At least eight people were killed and 19 others were injured in a tragic collision between a sleeper bus and a truck on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near the Auraiya border in Kannauj district. The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday in the Sakarava police station area.
The bus, which was carrying 40 passengers, collided head-on with a water tanker truck. Following the crash, emergency services and police teams rushed to the scene to assist the victims. The injured were quickly transported to Saifai Medical College for treatment, with several reported to be in critical condition.
District officials, including the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP), arrived at the site to oversee rescue operations and manage the aftermath of the incident. Water Resources Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, who happened to be passing through the area, also stopped to offer assistance. He ensured that the injured were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for medical care.
Kannauj Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar confirmed the details, stating, "A bus and a water tanker collided on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. The bus was traveling from Lucknow to Delhi, and police reached the site as soon as we were notified."
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by authorities. Meanwhile, the accident has raised concerns over road safety on this busy stretch of the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, which sees heavy traffic between major cities in Uttar Pradesh.
