Guwahati: The Sikkim government has implemented a tourist entry fee of Rs 50 per visitor, aimed at upgrading the state's tourism infrastructure and services.
According to officials, the fee will be collected at hotels during check-in and deposited into the Tourism Sustainability Development (TSD) Fund.
The entry fee applies to all tourists, except children under the age of five, for stays up to 30 days. If a tourist returns to Sikkim after a month, the fee will be charged again.
The collected funds will be utilized to enhance road connectivity, cleanliness, and overall visitor experience in Sikkim. This move is expected to contribute to the state's tourism development and provide a better experience for visitors.
In addition to the new entry fee, tourists planning to visit Sikkim should keep in mind certain things.
People should avoid using plastic water bottles, as they are banned in Sikkim and instead carry a reusable metal bottle to stay hydrated and combat altitude sickness.
