November 9, 2020: Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra is all set to reopen for common visitor from today (Monday) after ten months of closure, following COVID protocols.
It has been closed since last year after the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) protest that turned violent in Guwahati. It was scheduled to reopen this year but was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, Sirmanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra Somaj's vice president MLA Angoorlata Deka said, "The government has taken a decision to set up five mini Kalakshetras, one each at Dibrugarh, Diphu, Kokrajhar, Silchar and Delhi. We're also contemplating on preserving the contributions of folk singer Pratima Pandey Baruah”.
She further added, “On November 9 a website of the Kalakshetra will be launched by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The website will let people know about the Kalakshetra."
