IMD Predicts Light to Moderate Rainfall in Eastern, North-East Regions, Heavy Rain To Lash Northeast States Over Next 4-5 Days

June 14, 2024 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall across the northeast and eastern regions of India in the coming hours. The areas expected to experience this weather include Sikkim, adjoining areas of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, West Arunachal Pradesh, West Assam, and Meghalaya.

The IMD shared this update on their official social media platform, X, stating, "Light to moderate rainfall at most places with occasional intense spells of rainfall is very likely to continue over Sikkim & adjoining areas of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, West Arunachal Pradesh, West Assam, and Meghalaya. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning also likely over extreme northeast Bihar during next 3 hours."

This prediction follows a previous alert issued on Thursday, which indicated that heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls was expected to persist over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Northeast India for the next four to five days.

Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay updated with local weather reports and take necessary precautions. The rainfall could impact daily activities and transport, and there is potential for localized flooding in areas with intense rainfall spells.
