September 14, 2021: The death toll in the September 8 Majuli boat tragedy has risen to 3 after the dead body of missing passenger Dr Bikramjit Baruah was recovered from Ahatguri Bhekeli today.



Dr Baruah was missing since September 8. He was on board the private ferry that had overturned after a collision with a bigger, government run ferry at Nimati Ghat in Jorhat.





Dr Baruah, was a resident of Borigaon in Jorhat. He was an ENT specialist. He is survived by his father, wife Dr Arunima Borah, and two children.

Parimita Das, a 28 year old Assistant Professor of Rangachahi College was the first casualty. Two people - Indreswar Bora and Dr Bikramjit Baruah were missing. Bora’s body was recovered from Biswanath Ghat on September 11, three days after the accident.



Assam government has banned the movement of single engine boats on the Brahmaputra.
