April 9, 2021: Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi’s mother Shanti Priya Gogoi passed away in the wee hours of Friday in New Delhi. She was 87.

As per reports, she was receiving treatment for eye-related issues and also underwent an operation recently in Delhi.

She was wife of former Assam Chief Minister Keshab Chandra Gogoi.

Shanti Gogoi was a well-known social worker and the founding president of Socio Educational Welfare Association (SEWA), an NGO based in Dibrugarh. She initiated and formed the NGO in 2000, two years after her husband’s death.

Her body will be brought back to Dibrugarh’s residence on Friday afternoon.
