Attack on Rakibul Hussain's Residence Amid By-Election Tensions in Assam; MP Sends Urgent Plea for Security

November 13, 2024: Amid growing political tensions in Assam ahead of the ongoing by-elections,  the residence of former Assam Minister and Congress leader Rakibul Hussain was attacked late last night by a group of miscreants wielding sharp weapons. The attack occurred in front of his home, sparking fears of escalating violence in the region. In response to the alarming incident, Hussain has sent an urgent message to Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, seeking immediate security.

According to sources, Hussain sent a message to the Chief Minister at 2:26 AM today, requesting swift intervention and enhanced protection following the attack. The former minister also confirmed that he has filed a formal First Information Report (FIR) with the police this morning, providing details of the attack.

The attack, which took place late on the previous night, was reportedly carried out by a group of miscreants who brandished sharp weapons and caused considerable damage outside his residence. A video of the attack has also been sent to Chief Minister Sarma as evidence, heightening concerns over the safety of political figures in the region.

In a strong statement following the attack, Rakibul Hussain expressed his distress and condemned the act of violence. He also made an alarming declaration, stating that if such incidents of violence continued, he would be forced to quit politics.

Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma has yet to publicly respond to the request for additional security.
