Another Over 200 Children Test Positive for COVID-19 in Assam

34,606 children under 18 years of age who have been infected with Covid-19 since April this year when the second wave of the pandemic began in the state, according to National Health Mission

Jamugurihat/ Gohpur/Moran, July 1, 2021: Over 200 children have tested positive for the coronavirus in Assam’s within a month. According to initial report, 151 children tested positive for the virus in Jamugurihat, 163 in Gohpur and 38 in Moran.



In the month of May, 111 children were tested positive for the COVID-19 in Jamugurihat and 11 had lost their lives due to the virus so far.



In Gohpur area 163 children have tested positive for COVID-19, the children are currently under quarantine at Kalabari Civil Hospital’s COVID Care Centre. Some of them have been recovered or discharged and 20 children have recovered today after testing negative for COVID-19.



As many as 38 children were also tested positive for COVID-19 in Moran within the 10 days. The positive children are mostly under 14 years and they have been under quarantine at Covid care centre.





A total of 135 children have been admitted in Guwahati Medical College and Hospital this year and 550 in Assam Medical College and Hospital.

Nine children have succumbed to the infection in GMCH on April.



The state has reported a total 34,606 children under 18 years of age who have been infected with Covid-19 since April this year when the second wave of the pandemic began in the state, according to National Health Mission, Assam.



Out of this 5,755 cases are children below five years whereas 28,851 are between 6 and 18 years. Of the 34,066 positive cases, 34 children, mostly with comorbidities, have succumbed to the infection.



During the first COVID wave the positivity rate of children stood at 8 per cent whereas 12 per cent in second wave of the pandemic.
