January 14, 2021: Hollywood actor Tom Hanks, best known for movies like “Forrest Gump” and “The Da Vinci Code” will host a special television programme across major networks on the night of US president-elect Joe Biden's and vice president-elect Kamala Harris’ inauguration.

The 90-minute show entitled "Celebrating America" will feature musical performances from Jon Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake and Demi Lovato.

"I'm SO honored to announce that I will be joining @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris for their special event," Lovato wrote on Twitter.

Democrats Biden and Kamala Harris, who will be sworn in earlier in the day as president and vice president, also will deliver remarks.

Biden`s committee has scaled back the usual inaugural events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, cancelling the traditional parade and inaugural balls normally held in Washington.

The television special "will showcase the American people`s resilience, heroism, and a unified commitment to coming together as a nation to heal and rebuild", the inaugural committee said.

The program will be broadcast on television networks CBS, ABC, CNN, NBC and MSNBC, and streamed on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other online platforms.
