August 17, 2020: The condition of former president Pranab Mukherjee continues to be critical, a medical bulletin from the Army Hospital Research and Referral in New Delhi said on Monday, a week after he underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain clot.

"The condition of Pranab Mukherjee continues to be critical, said the Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi. "His vital and clinical parameters are stable. He is on ventilatory support and is being closely monitored," the hospital's bulletin said.

The 84-year-old former president was admitted to the hospital on last Monday and was operated upon for removal of a clot in the brain. He is also COVID-19 positive. The hospital said Mukherjee is on ventilatory support and closely being monitored.

His son, Abhijit Mukherjee, said on Sunday that he had visited the hospital on Saturday and his father “is much better and stable than the preceding days”. Pranab Mukherjee served as India’s 13th president from 2012 to 2017.
