August 19, 2020: India reported its highest single-day death toll from the Covid-19 pandemic, reporting 1,099 fatalities on Tuesday leading the death toll to 52,889.

August 19, 2020: India reported its highest single-day death toll from the Covid-19 pandemic, reporting 1,099 fatalities on Tuesday leading the death toll to 52,889. This was the third time that the daily deaths had crossed 1,000.





On the other hand 64,000+ cases have pushed the total case tally to 27.6 lakh. It may be stated that India’s tally of 27, 67,274 cases includes 6, 76,514 patients undergoing treatment, 20, 37,871 patients who have recovered.



Maharashtra, New Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are the states with the highest number of cases in the country. Andhra Tuesday became the third state after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu to cross the three lakh mark. The state now has 3, 06,261 cases.





Meanwhile, Phase 3 trials of the Oxford vaccine will begin in India this week. The Oxford University vaccine candidate, Covishield, could be the first one to move into production in India.
