October 6, 2020: In a recent development, Gohpur police has apprehended five of the nine accused involved in the brutal gang-rape and murder of a 12-year-old in Gohpur on Tuesday.

Reportedly, the five accused namely Ankur Pegu, Bikash Pegu, Ajit Pegu, Luhit Doley and Milanjyoti Doley have been arrested based on the FIR lodged by the victim’s family.

Earlier on February 28 the dead body of the deceased was found hanging from a tree in Gohpur’s No. 1 Chakla region.

The girl was reportedly abducted by the accused following which a group of boys brutally gang-raped her and later murdered. They tried to stage the incident as a case of suicide.

After the heinous crime came to light the accused were arrested but were later out on bail. This development agitated the locals and received backlash from them.
