October 12, 2024: A serious accident occurred on Friday evening when the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bhagmati Express train collided with a stationary goods train near Kavaraipettai railway station, resulting in injuries to at least 19 passengers and derailing 13 coaches.



The incident ignited a fire in two of the passenger train's coaches, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. The injured individuals were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.



Preliminary investigations indicate that the express train experienced a sudden jolt, leading it onto a loop line where it crashed into the parked goods train.



In response to the situation, the Southern Railway's Chennai Division has activated emergency helpline numbers for affected passengers: 044-25354151 and 044-24354995. Additionally, railway divisions in neighboring Andhra Pradesh have provided their own helpline numbers for further assistance: Gudur (08624 250795), Ongole (08592 280306), Vijayawada (0866 2571244), and Nellore (0861 2345863).



Medical relief teams, ambulances, and senior railway officials have been dispatched to the site to coordinate rescue efforts. Fortunately, all passengers have been accounted for and rescued from the affected coaches.
