Tuhin Kanta Pandey Appointed New Finance Secretary of India

SEPTEMBER 8, 2024- In a significant reshuffle, the Indian government has appointed Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the new Finance Secretary. Pandey, a seasoned Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1987 Odisha cadre, will take over from TV Somanathan, who was recently named Cabinet Secretary of India in August, replacing Rajiv Gauba.

Prior to his new role, Mr. Pandey served as the Secretary of the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), where he played a crucial role in steering the government's asset monetization and disinvestment programs. He took charge of DIPAM in October 2019 and has overseen key policy reforms aimed at improving public sector efficiency and government asset management.

Mr. Pandey's extensive experience in public administration and finance is expected to provide strong leadership to the Finance Ministry at a time when India’s economy continues to navigate global challenges and pursue growth-driven reforms.

The government’s reshuffle underscores a continued focus on fostering economic stability and efficient public asset management as Pandey takes on his new responsibilities.
