October 3, 2024: In a shocking incident that underscores growing concerns over law and order in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and state general secretary Pankaj Yadav was shot multiple times while out for a morning walk near the airport in Munger.
According to eyewitness accounts and statements from fellow party members, Yadav was pursued by two assailants on a motorcycle for nearly a kilometer before they opened fire. Despite being struck in the chest, Yadav managed to escape and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical staff successfully removed the bullet. His condition is currently reported as stable.
Former RJD MLA Vijay Kumar, who spoke to the media about the incident, highlighted the brazen nature of the attack, saying, “He was walking in the field when the assailants came and shot at him. After that, I lost consciousness.”
Authorities are now investigating the incident, with police confirming that one of the suspects has a known criminal background. A top police official stated that further inquiries are underway to ascertain the assailants' connections.
RJD leaders have expressed outrage over the attack, with Ejaz Ahmad criticizing the state government for its inability to maintain public safety. “Is this good governance? Leaders of Opposition parties are being shot. There is not much difference in the situation of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar now. Crime and criminals are dominant in Bihar,” Ahmad stated, calling attention to the deteriorating security environment.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav also condemned the incident, holding Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s administration responsible for the escalating violence and lawlessness in the state.
