Over 20 Homes Torched in Bihar Amid Land Dispute

September 19, 2024: Tensions erupted in Nawada district as over 20 homes belonging to Dalit families were set ablaze during a violent land dispute on Wednesday evening. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered the additional director general of police (ADG) for law and order to visit the area for a thorough inspection.

The incident took place in Manjhi Tola, under the jurisdiction of Mufassil Police Station. Eyewitnesses reported that around 7 PM, a group of individuals began igniting homes one after the other, while shots were fired into the air, causing widespread panic among residents. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries.

Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman stated that authorities received emergency calls around 7:30 PM and responded swiftly, deploying fire engines to combat the flames. "It took some time to douse the blaze," Dhiman noted.

In the aftermath, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation, leading to the detention of 15 individuals connected to the incident. Search operations are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects.

To maintain order, a large contingent of police has been stationed in the area to prevent any escalation of violence. "The situation is currently under control," Dhiman assured.

Further updates are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
