Neeraj Chopra asserted his dominance by qualifying for the final in the 2024 Paris Olympics with an impressive throw of 89.43m in just 10 seconds earlier this week. He dominated the remaining competitors in the qualification round and secured the top position, achieving his best performance of the season and the second-best throw of his career. In a video shared by ANI, Chopra's mother, Saroj Devi, conveyed her happiness: “We are very happy; for us, silver is also equal to gold... He was injured, so we are happy with his performance.” She also extended her congratulations to Nadeem, stating that all athletes are like her own children and promised to prepare Chopra’s favourite meal upon his return home. In the second round, Neeraj achieved a new season best with a throw of 89.45m, moving him up to second place in the competition. However, he was unable to surpass Nadeem's impressive 91.79m throw in the final attempt of the night, which could have potentially broken the Olympic record.



Addressing the press post-match, Neeraj praised Nadeem and acknowledged that it was his initial loss to the Pakistani athlete in a javelin event in nearly a decade. Despite not winning the highly anticipated gold medal, Neeraj made history by claiming India's first silver medal at the Paris Olympics. He joined Norman Pritchard, Sushil Kumar, PV Sindhu, and Manu Bhaker as the fifth athlete to win two medals at the Games. He is the third athlete, along with Sushil and Sindhu, to win medals at.
