October 24, 2024: In a press conference today, prominent Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi leveled serious accusations against the Congress party, alleging a significant betrayal stemming from internal conflicts between key party members Bhupen Bora and Gaurav Gogoi. He described this rift as a reflection of Congress's faltering commitment to coherent policy, suggesting that the party is now motivated primarily by "blind greed for power."
Gogoi's criticisms were particularly pointed regarding the party's recent decision to award a ticket to Jayanta Bora, who he noted is still affiliated with the BJP. "This move demonstrates a troubling shift away from the core ideals of Congress," he declared, labeling it a "historic betrayal" that undermines the party’s integrity.
Additionally, Gogoi took aim at Gaurav Gogoi, suggesting that he is maneuvering to consolidate power by pushing for the ousting of Bhupen Bora. "According to Gaurav, Bhupen should be removed to allow him greater control," he stated, warning that this internal power struggle could hinder efforts to unify against the BJP in the upcoming elections.
The MLA further claimed that the internal discord might lead to a resurgence of the political environment seen in 2011 if Congress regains power. Akhil Gogoi’s remarks highlight growing concerns about the direction of the Congress party as it approaches crucial elections, raising questions about its commitment to the principles it claims to uphold.
