BPF and UPPL poised for alliance ahead of BTC elections, says Durga Das Boro

September 7, 2024: In a recent interview, Durga Das Boro, an MLA from the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), unveiled that an alliance between the BPF and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) is a strong possibility for the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. Boro said that if there is a substantial demand from the people of BTC for such unity, both parties are ready to collaborate.

As the BTC elections draw nearer, discussions about a potential alliance are gaining momentum. Boro pointed out that the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), a prominent Bodo student organization, has been proactive in facilitating negotiations between BPF and UPPL

Reflecting on past elections, Boro noted that in the previous BTC election, BPF was on the brink of forming the government, losing out by just four seats. Despite their narrow loss, BPF was unable to establish the government due to the Governor's decision not to grant them the opportunity.

Meanwhile, BPF leader Rabiram Narzary emphasized the strategic nature of the potential alliance, framing it as a necessary response to the BJP’s "Divide and Rule" policy. Narzary revealed that BPF and UPPL have engaged in discussions on at least five occasions, underscoring the seriousness of their negotiations.

As both parties move forward with their discussions, the prospect of a BPF-UPPL alliance could significantly impact the political landscape of the BTC elections, potentially altering the dynamics of local governance in the region.
