November 29, 2020: In a major breakthrough, the Guwahati Police has arrested the proxy candidate who had appeared in the Joint Entrance Examination on behalf of Neel Nakshatra Das.

Proxy candidate Pradip Kumar was arrested on Sunday morning from a flat in Bae Sarai of New Delhi by a police team from West Police District of Guwahati led by ADCP West. The proxy candidate is now on transit to Guwahati and will be produced in court on Monday.

Kumar had arrived in Guwahati 2-3  days ahead of the JEE examination and had returned to Delhi the same day after appearing in the examination.

Police claim that he charges huge sum to sit as a  proxy candidate in various examinations and has a good contact with several other institutes and organisations of the country.

Police believe his interrogation will lead to some startling revelations on this racket.

The case came to light from a telephonic conversation of Neel Nakshatra Das, who had topped the JEE from Assam. Neel had revealed to a friend that he had never appeared in the examination and someone else had appeared on his behalf.

Based on the lead, Azara police filed an FIR and arrested several persons including Neel, his father Dr Jyotirmoy Das, Bhargav Deka, owner of Global Eduilite and some staff of TCS, which conducted the online entrance.
