Aug 7, 2020: KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi's prayer for bail was rejected again by the NIA Court on Friday. The NIA Special Court after hearing the arguments of both NIA and Gogoi's counsels, rejected the KMSS leader's plea. After this, Gogoi's counsel has decided to move the Gauhati High Court for bail. His advocate told DY365 that they will soon approach the High Court seeking bail.

Gogoi, who was arrested on December 17 last year amidst the anti-CAA movement by the NIA, got default bail in March as the NIA failed to submit the chargesheet within the 90-day time. But he was rearrested in several other cases subsequently.

The KMSS leader, lodged in Guwahati central prison, is now undergoing treatment at GMCH for various ailments. Gogoi was already suffering from stomach pain when he tested Covid positive few days ago. Though he is tested Covid negative now, he is yet to recover fully.
