July 25, 2020: Despite government order for total weekend lockdown in Guwahati on Saturday and Sunday, people in many places violated the lockdown rules.
At Lokhra, vegetable vendors opened shops on the NH-37. People thronged the shops without maintaining social distance or wearing masks. This led to commotion on the road.
A few kilometres away at Lal Ganesh, the shops were opened like any usual business day. Unfazed by the total lockdown norms, the traders opened their shops. Even meat and fish too were sold openly. However, the shops were closed by the police later.
Meanwhile, thin vehicular movement was seen on the city roads during the day as the total lockdown for two days began on Saturday. All shops and other institutions remained closed. The government announced total lockdown on every Saturday and Sunday after restricted activities were allowed from Monday to Friday.
The spike in Covid-19 cases has forced the government to enforce stricter rules for carrying out various activities.
