October 12, 2020: The Jorhat District Sessions court on Monday has held 25 persons in the Dr. Deben Dutta lynching case.

October 12, 2020: A Jorhat Court has convicted 25 persons for the lynching of Dr. Deben Dutta last year. 



The Jorhat District Sessions court on Monday pronounced the final judgement on the case. Out of the 32 accused, 25 have been held guilty. The judgement on quantum of punishment has been reserved till October 19. 



Meanwhile, Hari Manjhi, one of the accused who was acquitted of the case, died on Monday hours before the judgement came.



Dr. Deben Dutta, the resident doctor of Teok Tea garden hospital, was beaten to death by a mob on August 31, 2019 following the death of a tea garden worker at the hospital. The agitated tea workers, alleging that the patient died due to negligence of the doctor, had attacked him at his chamber where he succumbed to the injuries.
