August 31, 2020: The issue of Sootea MLA Padma Hajarika brandishing a gun few days ago was raised in the Assam Assembly on Monday.

Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed, raising the issue through a Point of Order, asked how an MLA could brandish a gun in public.

Hajarika defended himself saying that he was carrying his licenced gun which he got after militant attack on him earlier. Hitting back at Ahmed, Hajarika questioned should he have to carry a holy book in his hands when indigenous Assamese youths were attacked by suspected nationals?
