July 13, 2020: The flood situation in Assam continues to worsen as the floodwaters inundated new areas and affected nearly 13 lakh people of 24 districts.

July 13, 2020: The flood situation in Assam continues to worsen as the floodwaters inundated new areas and affected nearly 13 lakh people of 24 districts.



According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, over 2 thousand villages have been affected and 44 people have died so far on the other hand 21,071 flood-affected people have now taken shelter at 224 relief camps set up by the administration in 16 flood-hit districts.



The NDRF, SDRF teams and district administration have continuing to rescue people from flood affected areas. On Sunday 2,339 people have been rescued  from the flood-affected areas in Dhemaji, Darrang, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Kamrup, Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

The floodwaters have damaged several roads, bridges and washed away portions of at least 15 embankments in different parts of the state.



Following incessant rains the water levels of Brahmaputra River is flowing above danger level mark in several districts.



Meanwhile, the flood has also affected the wildlife of the state leading to the death of 41 wild animals in Kaziranga National Park and one rhino in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary this year so far.
