September 5, 2020: The Covid=19 situation in Assam is gradually going out of control. After Thursday's 3000+ cases, again, 2891 fresh cases were reported on Friday.

According to health minister Dr. Himanta Bisswa Sharma, Kamrup M recorded 670; Kamrup Rural- 232, Karimganj- 175 and Dibrugarh reported 151 cases on Friday.

Altogether 39,347 tests were done on Friday with a positivity rate of 7.34%. The major cause of concern is the high death toll. On Friday, 15 persons lost their battles against the virus, taking the total death toll to 345.

During the day on Friday, 2020 patients were discharged from hospitals across the state. This left the state with 1,21,224 patients including 92,717 discharged and 28,159 active patients. Health minister Dr. Sharma on Friday attributed the rise in positive cases to the mandatory testing of teachers of schools and colleges.
