July 21, 2021: She is all of 13. Sky Brown the Japan born, world’s youngest skateboarder would be representing Great Britain in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Born to an English father and Japanese mother, Brown turned professional at the age 10 and is Nike’s youngest sponsored athlete.
Brown learned her tricks from Youtube, and had initially competed for Japan, the country of her birth, but switched her allegiance to Great Britain. Brown is a real contender for a medal having finished third in the Park event at the 2019 World Skateboarding Championships in Brazil.
Skateboarding is making its debut at the Olympics in Tokyo. The other new sports this Olympics are karate, surfing, sport climbing and baseball/softball. Skateboarding is also provisionally included in the program for Paris 2024.
There are four medal events, two for men and two for women in the Park and Street disciplines.
Sky has over million followers on Instagram and a huge fan following on YouTube who follows her religiously. She shares the YouTube space with her younger brother (and fellow skateboarder) Ocean.
In one of her Twitter posts, the 13-year old wonder kid has mentioned that she likes to dance, sing and she is also learning to play the guitar because “life is too short to do just one thing”.
